Safe as Houses: Chapter 4 & 5

1. There was a lot of things that happened in both chapters 4 and 5. In chapter 4, you can tell that the flood gets a bit worst. First Lizzie found a dead cow being pushed down in the river outside. Then from there, both Lizzie and David saw more objects and even animals, knowing how bad the situation is. A truck crashes against the house... it was all terrible. Now in the end of chapter 4, a window in the McBride's house shatters and explodes. Starting in chapter 5, Lizzie gets smashed against the wall with a loud thud. The air in her lungs have been forced out. Her back was in sharp pain. She didn't know what to do, but then she saw David with his flashlight and swam over to him on the stairs. While with David, he has a 6 inch gash below the elbow. Here it is getting worst because now the characters are getting physically hurt. Now they wake up Suzie. All four of them, Lizzie, David, Suzie, and even Daisy, had to get out of the house because the water was rising quick. They all get new clothes as fast as they can and put them on. They try to get onto the roof, it was the only way they could survive. They all had to get up, one at a time. In the end of chapter 5, Lizzie goes back down into the house, trying to get the first aid kit and a soda for Suzie. The chapter ends there.

2. I think the person who is developing the most is David. I like his character in these 2 chapters, because he is helping out Lizzie very well in the situation. He is cooperating well, and doesn't argue as much as he used to. I also think Lizzie is great. She is trying her best to keep the 2 children alive, which is technically her job as a babysitter. No matter how much pain she may be in from the cold water, she continues what she's doing to keep everyone safe.

3. The newer challenges between the characters are being able to work together without having to argue, as this is a serious situation where joking around has to be set aside. The water is rising up in the house, so they need to stay in the safer area, which I think is the roof for now. Also, Mr. and Mrs. McBride or Lizzie's dad hasn't arrived yet, so they need to work as a team.

4. I think this is a pretty important part of the story. The flood is getting worst, the rivers are up to most people's knees or higher, you can see dead animals in the water, and all the power is out. We never know what can happen next in the story, whether they make it alive or not. Also, we get to see more out of the characters in the chapter, as we get to see more of their personality.

5. Unless if you have not read the other chapters, no one can be really sure what will happen next in the following chapter. But I think that the water will stop rising, and the kids will turn out safe. The next problem they'll have to face is how to get rid of all the water everywhere, especially the house, because the water in there is how many feet deep...

Spirit Day 2oo9 ~ .

On Saturday, November 28 2009, we went to a special event called Spirit Day. We left the school early in the morning at 10:30am and got home late at 10:30pm. We spent almost 12 hours there. It was a very long and exciting day, but even though, on the way home, none of us were tired or slept on the bus. We were all talking about how fun the day was and that we wanted to stay even longer. We all learned a lot of things and I would like to have that same experience again.

When we first got into the school, I didn't know what we were going to do first. We actually had a few games. My favorite one was "Funky Chicken". It's where one person would say, "let me see your *insert person or animal here*!" And the rest of the people would go, "What's that you say?!" And they repeat that 2 or 3 times then the one person would do an action related to the person/animal. ex. For Spongebob you would say "I'm ready! I'm ready!" That was a great way to start the day and I was laughing for almost the whole time.

One of my favorite parts were Brad and Gene's acts. They were very entertaining, you couldn't keep your eyes off the stage, which made it good. They were excellent jugglers... and comedians. From Brad, it was funny when he taught us how to quickly tie a tie... and with Gene, I enjoyed watching him struggle to get out of the straightjacket! Both acts were very funny. Sometimes they did tell some stories about their families which were very touching. Like Brad, he told us the story about his sister Britney, who had a disability and had a lot of challenges to overcome. The thing is that he focused more on what he did for her, how it made him feel and such, not that fact that she passed away or how she did.

Another one of my favorite parts is the singing. Matt Meher is awesome... my favorite song is 'Alive Again'. I can relate to that song in a way... I also liked the song "Glorious"... I pretty much liked them all. Sometimes I go to YouTube and listen to those songs. It was fun clapping, singing, and even dancing to the songs. They all had a meaning related to God.

The 'So You Think You've Got Talent Crew Idol" game was very fun to watch. It turned out funny in the end because none of the contestants won... Matt Meher did! It taught us that winning isn't everything and when you are doing something, you do it because you enjoy it and have fun. Not because you want to win.

I met... or atleast saw... some people I know from other schools. We all also saw Lily again, a classmate and good friend of mostly the girls since gr.6. We also saw Noah, our classmate we used to have back in gr.5 who transferred to Capilano Elementary School. There was also Nelson and Dominik, 2 of our other past classmates in the younger years. They haven't changed much and it was great to see alot of people, enjoying the same thing as us.

That Saturday was a very fun day. If it were possible I'd like to attend it again with my class... I will not forget the great experience I had. We learned many things and Spirit Day was a great time for us to get ready for Confirmation.

The Apple and Orange Culture

On Thursday at school, we played a game with 2 different made up cultures. The Apple and the Orange culture. It taught us more things than just learning a whole different language in a made up culture.

Let's start with the Apple culture first. First of all, they focused on friendship more than anything else. They were always happy, even if they lost a game. They would be as happy as a winner would be if they lost.

The way you greet someone isn't very hard. The woman always pats the man first on the shoulder. If there are two men or two women, the taller person pats the shorter person first. You always try to smile and be as cheerful as you can.

The language of the Apple culture is quite complicated. They can only speak in one word sentences. They use colors to describe their feelings. Red is if you're angry, displeased, or sad. Yellow is if you're happy. Blue is just when you are chatting normally, and black is when you're confused. So for example, if I was happy, I would say something yellow like 'banana' or 'sunshine'. If I was angry, I would say something red like 'firetruck'.

If you're not sure what word to use, you can just say 'whoop', which is like apologizing for not having the right words.

The apple culture's game is quite easy. Again, like a greeting, the woman approaches the man first. If there are two women or two men, the taller pats the shorter person first. So both players roll the dice. Whichever person gets an even number wins. The one with the odd number loses. If both players get an even number (or odd) it's a tie, and they have to give each other a card. The orange one has more value.

Now I will be talking about the Orange culture. They are not as complex as the Apple culture. There are more focused on winning. When they lose, they get really angry. They don't like physical contact. I don't think the Orange culture has a way of greeting other people.

Their language is quite simple. They can only use one word sentences. They say the opposite of everything. So if they were to call someone pretty, they would say ugly instead. Or if they were sad, they would say happy. They also say 'whoop' when they aren't sure of what word to use.

The Orange culture's game is quite different from the apple's culture. There are two players. Men are the only ones who can ask people to play. Men can ask other men or woman to play, but the woman just has to wait there till she gets asked. So the game goes like this. There are two players with a deck of cards. One person would say "3-2-1 stop." Backwards for 1-2-3 go. Then they would put a card from their deck down. They would keep doing that, until one person gets 2 red cards in a row. The winner gets to keep all the cards layed out, being happy. The loser gets nothing, being very sad... as usual.

There are only a few similarities between the Apple and Orange culture. One of them, is that they both use the word 'whoop' when they aren't sure of what word to say. Another similarity is that they both use cards in their games. And one last simple similarity, is that in their language, they can only use one word sentences.

I have learned a few things from this fun culture game. I learned that it does take time to understand another culture, you need patience. Also, you need to have acceptance. All cultures are different and we need to accept that we're all not the same. In the olden days, people could not intermarry because they only stuck to their own culture and most likely had to marry someone from their country. But nowadays, you can see a lot of mixed families because we have free countries. Such as Canada, America, Australia, etc. And that is a good thing, because we can learn difference things from each other. This game was fun and it really taught us all different things.

**ancient artifact report

Today is October 21, 2009. Me and my fellow colleagues, Dr. Martyna Siwocha, Dr. Mark Pinto-Flores, and Dr. Pedraum Moghari were in Cairo, Egypt. It's been about 12 days and we haven't been trying as hard as we could to look for the mysterious artifact that we were supposed to find. We're only here for 14 days so we had to work harder because we were going to go back to Vancouver B.C, Canada in 2 days. We're supposed to work together as a team. It has been 12 days, and Mark and Pedraum just gave up. So they ditched us and left to go somewhere else. So me and Martyna continued working... after 2 hrs of me digging, I hit a spot and I was for sure it was there. I called Martyna to check it out, and she told me to dig deeper. After another 5 minutes of digging... we found it. We found a necklace that had two small diamonds on the side, a small silver heart, a flower with diamonds in the middle, a tear shape made of nickel, a pearl covered in bronze, and in the middle there is a big heart shaped locket with no picture or anything. There are also two chains, a silver and a gold one. All these on the necklace are very special and valuable. The owner of this ancient necklace is the Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra III. Each of these special charms meant something different to her. The two diamonds represented her position of queen, that she may do the best for her country. The small silver heart represented her big heart, she was very kind and respectful. The flower with the diamonds represented her beauty like a flower. The tear shape made of nickel represented strength, when her father passed away she was very depressed, but it made her stronger and have more confidence in herself. The pearl covered in bronze represented her honesty, that she would not lie as she was the leader of Egypt. The big heart in the middle represented her love. She was extremely loving and caring for everyone. Mission Accomplished!
Our job is done. Unfortunately, Dr. Pinto-Flores and Dr. Moghari do not get credit because they didn't help, but we appreciate them coming along with us. Now it's time to go back to Vancouver, and show Mr.Dotto what we've found!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P.S. Tyler and Pedraum actually did a great job ( just using them for something in my essay!) =D

My First Prayer reflection! =)

Dear Jesus,
Today was an awesome day so far at school. Today is pajama day, so the whole school gets to wear their pajamas... which is really something you don't get to do everyday.
Today I feel really happy. I don't know why... but today I had a good recess playing/talking with my friends, and that brought me in a good mood as of now.
But today at recess alot of people got hurt... I felt sorry for them so I helped them get better by bringing them upstairs to get ice, or whatever they needed.
There are so many wonderful people in my life. Family, and friends. I realize that now that they are very important to me, they all have made atleast small but good changes in my life...I love them so much and I want to thank you for those wonderful people. Without them I don't know what different kind of person I would have become.
I thank you so much for all the great gifts and talents you have given me... being talented in piano, my awesomeness in taekwondo :P (I'm a red belt, going to black belt in a few months) ...and now I am currently learning guitar... I really love music. Thank you again Jesus for my talents.
I haven't been outside too much today, but walking to school made me feel thankful. I saw alot of your beautiful creations. It was kinda cold, but on the bright side it was real sunny. I saw some flowers, all the trees... etc... that is why I love to walk to school in the morning. :)
I would also like to include my brother Noah in this... he has just first come to Canada in August 31. I am thankful for him, sometimes I miss being the only child, but when I'm bored I now have someone to bug... or someone to bug me.
I can never left these 2 people out... that is my mom and dad... they are caring, supportive in whatever I do (as long as it's a good choice) , and very loving. I thank you so much Jesus for them.
Life is great if you make the best out of it... I pray for world peace and that everyone is enjoying the life that Jesus gave them.

~A new experience in grade 7 ^_^

I was really excited for the first day of school. I got to see all my friends again, and have Mr. Dotto a teacher... :D .
Student council elections started this Monday. I ran for school treasurer (I had to think alot about it), up against Isabel and Tyler. For president, there is Karissa, Marvin, Arash, and Martyna. For secretary, there is Jessica and Clarissa. We've all been working hard, with both campaigning and speeches. I'm really excited to find out the results this Friday...
It's only September, and we already started volleyball. I joined the team (as usual :P) ... And our teacher is Ms. Singer and Ms. Robertson.
So far, I'm really liking grade 7, I'm back with all my friends again... and in grade 7 we have more freedom :) . We have a big flatscreen TV, we get to use the laptops  alot, and we get to sit on the couch (only if it's our day). We get to get our grad shirts soon, we already decided our color and logo. I hope they turn out well ^_^
I'm excited for the Christmas concert this year, because we get to be the ACTORS =D
Hopefully there will be good songs, and a good story too...
I think grade 7 will be my best and last year in St. Edmund's. ;)
